What is Part P and why should I use a part P approved electrical contractor?
Part P is the section of the building regulations relating to electrical safety in the home. Introduced in 2005 it is overseen by Local Government and is designed to ensure that all electrical work complies with BS7671 and part P. Much electrical work in the home and in particular locations is notifiable to your local building control before work can commence. Approved part P contractors are authorised to complete electrical works without the need and additional costs involved of notifying this type of work. You also have the reassurance of knowing that the work completed complies with all the relevant building regulations, not just part P; and is correctly tested and certified to ensure your safety and that of the installation. Approved part P contractors are listed on the Competant Person Register.
